The upcoming Asia Cup one day international cricket tournament is going to be held in the UAE (United Arab-Emirates) from 15 – 28 September 2018. This will be the 14th edition of the biennial tournament and the third time that it is being played in the UAE. The competition which was to be played in India was moved to UAE by the ACC (Asian-Cricket Council) executive board due to current tensions between India and Pakistan. India will host the tournament in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Earlier the Arab nation had hosted the championship in 1984 and 1995.

Teams from 6 nations will participate in the tournament. This includes all member countries of the Asian-Cricket Council viz India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. This time Hong Kong will also take part after they won the Asia Cup qualifier tournament in Malaysia where the beat UAE to secure their place.



The format is based on round-robin and knockout. The 6 teams have been divided into two groups, A and B. Group A has India, Pakistan and Hong Kong while group B has Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. The top 2 teams from each group will make it to the super 4. The top 2 teams from the super four section make it to the final to played on 28th September.


India is the defending champion (beat Bangladesh in Dhaka 2 years ago) and will fight to retain the title. Out of the 13 matches 8 will be played at the Dubai International Cricket-Stadium while the rest 5 will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket-Stadium. The final will be performed in Dubai.
